At the start of this year, Northpoint took another step forward in our sustainability journey by upgrading the pre-treatment process for powder coating.
In collaboration with Almetron and their Technical Manager, Dr Sean Peters, Northpoint transitioned from a traditional zinc phosphate system to a more environmentally friendly, titanium-based conversion coating: SUREBOND ® CF25.
Almetron, a longstanding partner for over 30 years, brings decades of expertise in surface preparation chemistry. Their continued support throughout this transition has been vital to ensuring a smooth implementation and successful results.
The shift to titanium-based pre-treatment reflects Northpoint’s commitment to reducing environmental impact. Unlike conventional systems, SUREBOND ® CF25 is non-volatile, requires lower concentrations, and demands minimal bath maintenance. These characteristics not only contribute to a more sustainable process but also reduce chemical waste and improve operational efficiency.
Effective surface preparation is essential when applying powder coatings. Simply applying powder to metal without the correct pre-treatment risks premature corrosion and poor finish quality. SUREBOND ® CF25 cleans, degreases, and deoxidises the metal surface, ensuring strong adhesion and long-lasting protection.

On-going salt spray testing provides real-world validation of the system’s effectiveness.
